Chapter 24
Bridge to the Ship
James' voice rang with incredulity, breaking the silence. "What?"
Tony reappeared, his demeanor more grounded now. "Apologies for the theatrics. There's a concealed entrance here."
Meryl chimed in, "I was aware of its presence. I didnât want to tell you."
James harbored doubts about Meryl's assertion, though he chose not to challenge her on it. He shook his head. "Where does it lead?"
Tony said, "I didn't venture too far, but I caught a glimpse of a large boat."
"Truly?" Meryl interjected with an air of certainty, "It's the exit."
James glanced at his menu and confirmed that their HP and MP were fully restored.
Tony volunteered to lead the way, his caution evident. "I'll take the lead. While I didn't spot any traps, I couldn't make a thorough check."
"Very well," James concurred, "we'll follow closely."
With a silent grace, the rogue advanced toward the wall and vanished into it. James pressed his palm against the barrier and stepped through. Emerging on the other side, he found himself in a spacious chamber, akin to the wooden rooms that had housed the blue-skinned pirates.
His companions materialized behind him. James saw a majestic ship floating in midair, resplendent with sails billowing as if buoyed by arcane winds. A sense of magic pervaded the vessel, its ethereal appearance juxtaposed against the impenetrable darkness below. Blue-skinned pirates moved about, their activities lending the ship an air of functionality.
Emily said, "Is the Necromancer there?"
"I think so. This looks like the ending to this trial," James said.
Harry said, "This is different. Our previous encounter was cut short. We were ambushed by the Necromancer on the upper floors."
Regret hovered in James' tone as he rebuked Harry. "You should have waited for us."
Harry raised his hands in placation. "We made a collective decision to advance."
Lauren's voice cut through, her perspective firm. "James, it's not Harry's fault."
Regret softened James' voice. "You're right. Let's move forward."
They proceeded with caution toward the ship. A sprawling bridge spanned the chasm, linking their position to the grand ship. A network of other bridges and walkways intertwined with the vessel's ascent, forming a web of access from other vast tunnels.
Yet, the notion crept into James's mind that the Necromancer might have orchestrated their path, luring them into the ship's domain.
Before embarking on the bridge, a practical notion guided James. "Before we proceed, let's review our stats and level up if possible."
He looked at his menu and saw Harry's portrait, was grayed out. He couldnât look at the blood mages stats. He was about to say something but he suppressed the impulse, striving to maintain their unity.
James seized the opportunity to amplify his own strength. Elevating his level from 5 to 8, he bestowed extra prowess to his dragon flame martial art, now at level 2. His attributes transformed as well:
Monk Level 8
Strength: 25
Intelligence: 24
Defense: 30
Moreover, his HP changed to 50, with KP amounting to 15. However, he was excited about his new skills.
Dragon Flame Martial Art Level 2
Dragon Talon Strike: Already in use
Fast Reflexes - Level 8 (Automated)
Strong Punch - Level 8 (+15 Attack) 2 KP
A real-time acknowledgment settled in.
